Welcome to the Center for Graduate Teaching Excellence web site (www.cgte.siuc.edu). As you know , SIUC is a quality university with a large and diverse students population. Our university has a undergraduate classes ranging from small independent study/ tutoring type courses, classes with small and moderate numbers of students, as well as the typical 'large lecture' courses. Combining all of the instructional variables including students' ages, abilities, challenges, backgrounds, you will find a variety of opportunities to gain , practice and improve your instructional skills as you assume your role as a teaching assistant.
The Center for Graduate Teaching Excellence (CGTE) should serve as a resource to you and your colleagues for the exchange of challenges and solutions with all faculty face as part of the instructional journey. We are here to help you prepare to assume as well as to polish your role as a teaching assistant along your journey of completing your graduate studies and to help you assume your future role in academia.
CGTE also provides support the SIUC faculty and to various colleges of SIUC, assorted departments, individual programs/courses, for the development of new training and orientation and /or the enhancement of existing training programs.
CGTE continues to meet with individual teaching assistants or groups of teaching assistants to help maximize instructional strengths and minimize instructional challenges.
